Behavioral intelligence is the ability to consciously adapt your behaviors. Whereas people normally put very little thought into their daily behavior, a person with behavioral intelligence knows specifically how to act in any given situation in order to achieve their goals. This is especially helpful in a professional setting: knowing which behaviors to tap into at any moment will help improve performance, interpersonal relations, leadership skills, and time management.
It is important to note, however, that appropriate behavior alone will not be enough to get you by. Let me give you an example of what I mean by that: If you have no idea how to manage a company, you will not become a CEO just because you know how to maneuver your behaviors effectively. That’s where performance indexing comes in.
What is Performance Indexing?
Performance indexing is a rating of the work produced by someone – whether it is a novel, a graphic design, a corporate project, or a school presentation. The process begins with an awareness of your job responsibilities, and ends with the ability to teach someone else how to do your job. Clearly, if you never make it any further than understanding your job responsibilities, you will not last long in that position.
Nobody can perform their job if there are unaware of their job responsibilities. On the other hand, the ability to teach someone else how to do your job is useless without an awareness of how to get along with the new employee, group member, or apprentice. If you are rude and arrogant, the new guy or gal will quit very early on. Nobody wants to work where they are constantly undervalued or insulted.
How do Behavioral Intelligence™ and Performance Indexing™ work together?
DISCflex™ isn’t just another guide that tells you what kind of person you are. With DISCflex™, you have a road map that can help guide your students from their present to their desired states.
As professionals advance through their behavioral intelligence (from the bottom to the top of the chart), they become much easier to work with. As they advance through the stages of performance (from the left to the right of the chart), they are more likely to be viewed as an expert in their field. In order to become that invaluable and irreplaceable stellar role model, you must have highly advanced skills in both categories.
How do you grow your behavioral intelligence? You have the ability to plant the seeds and bear the fruits of your efforts when you strive for behavioral excellence. But how exactly? DISCflex™ is essentially your guide to behavioral intelligence.
Why grow your behavioral intelligence?
So that you can get the job you've always wanted. Already have a job? Advance at it. Not looking for a job? Better your relationships. Behavioral intelligence is applicable more than just at work.
When you can successfully identify the way that others prefer to work or interact with you, and consciously decide how to act to complement that person's behavior, you will find it much easier to reach any goal that you may have.
If you want a full explanation of Behavioral Intelligence, you can find the book by Hellen Davis & Derrick Brown on Amazon.
How is it measured?
We use a grid system in which everyone, at the beginning of their adult life, begins at the bottom: in B1. If you want to see the chart, please refer to the "Matrix" tab.
The following pyramid describes the four stages of behavioral intelligence. Ideally, we would always be in B4.
How did all of this come about? In 1928, William Moulton Marston published Emotions of Normal People where he explained his DISC theory. His theory caught on in many circles, and years later Indaba Global, Inc. created a tool to assess the four factors, and also developed targeted e-learning sessions to ensure that every participant learns information that is both relative and applicable to themselves.
Become the employee that every company doesn't just want, but needs. Complement your behavioral intelligence with performance skills to advance and succeed to your maximum ability.
How are performance skills measured?
We measure performance skills on a scale from P1 (beginner) to P4 (expert). We all start at P1 when we learn a new skill and slowly but surely make our way toward P4. Do we always get there? No. But, imagine if we did. Imagine if we tried hard enough in every skill in our lives that we mastered them all. We would be unstoppable. That example is clearly unrealistic but it is the principle that matters:
If we reach our full potential in as many skills as possible, it will be very difficult for others to surpass us or win a job position or promotion over us.
You can see, then, why it is so important to build your performance skills. Without them, you will appear to others as someone without knowledge or experience in the subject at hand.
Measurements for performance skills:
How do you enhance your performance skills?
There are many ways to do so. How do you decide which way is best? With online courses, you have the ease and access to increase your skills on your time: whenever it is most convenient for you. We offer courses on many subjects - see the box below.

Q: Why should I use DISCflex™ in my class?
A: Countless studies dating back to the mid 1900’s, show that emotional and behavioral intelligence (soft skills) are a better predictor of success than IQ (hard skills). Unfortunately, not everyone has developed their soft skills, and this is seen daily throughout a college campus. Simply put, DISCflex™ raises your students’ soft skills and, when applied, makes them more successful students, business people, and human beings.
Q: How does DISCflex™ work?
A: DISCflex™ couples a validated, customized, behavior assessment with over 20 hours of video eLearning. Each student will be able to take an assessment that gives them self-awareness, receive anonymous feedback from people they know for 3rd Party Perception, and go through the eLearning to learn how to apply this information to their lives.
Q: How can this fit into my syllabus?
A: We work closely with you to make DISCflex™ manageable and fun for your students throughout the semester. DISCflex™ allows for flexibility and an endless supply of learning possibilities for your students.
